Description:

Rara colcha indo-portuguesa do séc. XVII, bordada a seda amarela ouro sobre linho. Ostenta ao centro a águia bicéfala e albarradas floridas. Profusa decoração com motivos florais, figuras a cavalo e a pé, aves, serpentes e quadrúpedes, alguns com formas fantasiosas. Com franja posterior a amarelo. Verso forrado. Manchas, falhas, restauros e defeitos.
Dim. aprox.: 256 x 185 cm.

Esta peça foi adquirida na Esther Fitzgerald Rare Textiles Gallery, Londres, em 1999.
A águia bicéfala está presente na iconografia e heráldica de diversas esculturas, símbolo usado pelo império bizantino, o Sacro Imperio Romano de Carlos V, entre outros.

    Condition:
  • Rare Indo-Portuguese quilt from the 17th century, embroidered in gold yellow silk on linen. It bears in the center the double-headed eagle and flowering albarradas. Profuse decoration with floral motifs, figures on horseback and on foot, birds, snakes and quadrupeds, some with fanciful shapes. With yellow fringe. Lined back. Stains, flaws, restorations and defects.
    Dim. approx.: 256 x 185 cm.

    This piece was acquired at the Esther Fitzgerald Rare Textiles Gallery, London, in 1999.
    The double-headed eagle is present in the iconography and heraldry of several sculptures, a symbol used by the empire Byzantine, the Holy Roman Empire of Charles V, among others.
