Faca para papel em marfim (abre-cartas) alusiva ao descobrimento do Brasil em 1500. Punho ricamente trabalhado representando o descobridor Pedro Álvares Cabral trajando à época, com calças de balão, botas e chapéu com pluma, abraçado a uma índia brasileira com toucado de plumas e colar. No verso, figura de Hércules vestindo a pele do Leão de Nemeia, segurando na mão uma tocha. A lenda conta que a família Cabral é descendente de Carano, o primeiro rei da Macedônia, que governou a região por volta do ano 1100 a.C. Carano, por sua vez, seria descendente de ninguém menos que o semideus Hércules! De pé sobre a Esfera Armilar e encimados por um anjo alado sustendo sobre a cabeça um escudo de formato elíptico tendo encima o casco de uma caravela. A guarda, em forma de mãos, é rematada de um lado pela Coroa Real portuguesa com ramo de oliveira e, do outro, a Coroa Imperial brasileira com ramo de carvalho. Lâmina lisa com gume curvo e pontiagudo. Sinais de uso.

Segundo tradição familiar, esta faca para papel pertenceu a S.M. El Rei Dom Carlos I.

  • Ivory paper knife (letter opener) alluding to the discovery of Brazil in 1500. Richly crafted handle representing the discoverer Pedro Álvares Cabral dressed at the time, with balloon pants, boots and a hat with a feather, hugging a Brazilian Indian with a headdress of feathers and necklace. On the reverse, a figure of Hercules wearing the skin of the Nemean Lion, holding a torch in his hand. Legend has it that the Cabral family is a descendant of Carano, the first king of Macedonia, who ruled the region around 1100 BC Carano, in turn, would be descended from none other than the demigod Hercules! Standing on the Armillary Sphere and surmounted by a winged angel holding over his head an elliptical shield topped by the hull of a caravel. The guard, in the shape of hands, is finished on one side by the Portuguese Royal Crown with an olive branch and, on the other, the Brazilian Imperial Crown with an oak branch. Smooth blade with curved and pointed edge. Usage signs.
