CARDOSO, Ana (n.1978)
Untitled (Red Orange Leaky Remains)
Acrílico sobre linho e algodão costurado
2023-2024
Dim. aprox.: 39,4 x 39,4 cm.

Sinopse

A pintura Untitled (Red Orange Leaky Remains) é construída juntando linho e algodão previamente pintados e posteriormente costurados.

    Synopsis

The painting Untitled (Red Orange Leaky Remains) is constructed by joining previously painted linen and cotton that are later sewn together. The different materials or pieces juxtapose samples of patterns and colors that circulate among works. There is also a reference to a pterosaur in the black fabric painted in gold, where parts of the negative figure stencil become abstract, originating new figures.

In my work, I employ a series of specific approaches: from abstraction to informality, from materiality to illusion, from conceptualism to ready-made.

This painting, also due to its format, derives and is isolated from a series of modular paintings where canvases of various formats can or cannot connect, forming floating compositions and perceptual games.

    Biography

Ana Cardoso was born in 1978 in Lisbon and is currently an artist based in Lisbon and New York.

Cardoso's practice provides a unique approach to abstraction, performance, and installation through the reinterpretation of painting in stable and fluid contexts. Her paintings are objects that interact as bodies and function as props.

    Synopsis
