  • Nasce em 1913 em Vila Nova de Gaia, discípulo de Joaquim Lopes. Obteve, em 1936, o prémio Sousa Cardoso, do Secretariado da Propaganda Nacional. É autor da «Via Sacra» da Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, no Porto. Tem-se dedicado ultimamente a elaborar grandes composições históricas, para cartões de tapeçarias executadas pela Manufactura de Portalegre. Obteve o 2º Prémio de Pintura na Exposição de Artes Plásticas, promovida pela Fundação Gulbenkian, em 1957. Expôs na 2ª Bienal de Arte Moderna de São Paulo, e na Exposição Pintura Portuguesa, Galeria Almada Negreiros, Lisboa, 1985. Devem-se-lhe decorações de pintura a fresco não só na Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Porto), já mencionada, mas também no Café Rialto (Porto), no Tribunal Judicial de Chaves, no edifício da Junta Autónoma do Funchal, entre outras. Dedica-se sobretudo a tapeçaria e a pintura mural. Notável, entre outras, a tapeçaria «Amarante e as Invasões Francesas» no Palácio da Justiça de Amarante. Recebeu entre outros o prémio Sousa Cardoso, S.N.I. em 1956 e Nacional de Tapeçaria, 1967. Está representado no Museu Nacional Soares dos Reis; na Fundação Gulbenkian; na Biblioteca-Museu de Amarante; nos Museus das Caldas da Rainha, em Tomar, Ovar e Colecções do Estado.

    Born in 1913 in Vila Nova de Gaia, disciple of Joaquim Lopes. In 1936, he obtained the Sousa Cardoso prize from the National Propaganda Secretariat. He is the author of the “Via Sacra” of the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, in Porto. Lately he has dedicated himself to elaborating great historical compositions, for tapestry cards executed by Manufactura de Portalegre. He obtained the 2nd Painting Prize at the Plastic Arts Exhibition, promoted by the Gulbenkian Foundation, in 1957. He exhibited at the 2nd Biennial of Modern Art in São Paulo, and at the Portuguese Painting Exhibition, Galeria Almada Negreiros, Lisbon, 1985. fresco painting decorations not only in the Church of Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Porto), already mentioned, but also in Café Rialto (Porto), in the Judicial Court of Chaves, in the building of the Junta Autónoma do Funchal, among others.
